A delegation from the World Bank Ghana, led by Country Director Mr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien, called the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to explore potential forest investments in the country.
The meeting, held on Monday, March 24th, 2025, in Accra, highlighted Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the World Bank to advance investments in the forest economy, particularly in job creation for the youth.
Despite the current challenges facing Ghana’s forest reserves, Hon. Buah emphasized the government’s readiness to collaborate with the World Bank on large-scale reforestation efforts. Key initiatives include the “Tree for Life” program, training for Blue Water Guards, engagement with parliamentarians on land restoration, and enhanced protection of the nation’s forest cover.
The Minister also outlined the government’s transformative policies and institutional reforms aimed at revitalizing the forestry sector.
In his response, Mr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s forest economy for sustainable growth. He noted that the Bank’s focus would include agroforestry projects, restoration of degraded forests, and youth employment opportunities.
This partnership is expected to generate jobs, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable forest management practices. Additionally, the initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader goals of reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.
