The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honourable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has begun a drive to promote Ghana as Africa’s preferred destination for mining and gold investment.
As part of the effort, he held high-level meetings with Hong Kong’s Ministry of Finance, private investors and the Hong Kong Gold Exchange during an official visit to China.
Addressing industry leaders, the Minister explained that the Mahama administration is strengthening the country’s gold value chain through responsible resource management, value addition and the establishment of the Ghana GoldBod to maximise national benefits from the sector.
Hon. Buah stressed that Ghana is ready to build strategic partnerships that will boost investment and expand opportunities across the gold industry.
“Ghana is the place for gold exploration and has value for trading. We are ready to collaborate with you”, he said.
A major focus of the discussions was the potential for cooperation between Ghana and the Hong Kong Gold Exchange through knowledge sharing, exchange programmes and capacity building.
The Minister mentioned that such collaboration would help Ghana strengthen its gold value chain while improving industry standards and competitiveness.
The Chairman of the Hong Kong Gold Exchange, Dr. Haywood Cheung, welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the Exchange’s commitment to promoting integrity, transparency and excellence in the global precious metals market.
He noted that Ghana, as Africa’s leading gold producer, stands to benefit significantly from a closer working relationship with the Exchange.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Isaac Tandoh, revealed that Ghana still holds enormous untapped gold deposits that require substantial investment to unlock their full economic potential.
He added that increased investor confidence, alongside initiatives such as the Ghana GoldBod, would be key to expanding production, improving gold trade and creating more value from the country’s mineral resources.
