A delegation from the World Bank Ghana, led by Country Director Mr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien, visited the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. The purpose was to explore potential forest investments in Ghana.

The meeting took place on Monday, March 24th, 2025, in Accra. It highlighted Ghana’s strong commitment to partnering with the World Bank to grow its forest economy, especially through job creation for the youth.

Hon. Buah acknowledged the challenges facing Ghana’s forest reserves. However, he stressed the government’s willingness to work with the World Bank on large-scale reforestation. He outlined key initiatives such as the “Tree for Life” program, training of Blue Water Guards, and efforts to engage parliamentarians on land restoration. The government is also taking steps to strengthen the protection of Ghana’s forest cover.

The Minister further shared the government’s transformative policies and reforms designed to revive the forestry sector.

Mr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien welcomed the partnership. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s support for Ghana’s forest economy. He said the Bank would focus on agroforestry projects, forest restoration, and youth employment opportunities.

This collaboration aims to create jobs, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable forest management. It also supports Ghana’s broader goal of reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the fight against global climate change.
