A 10-member delegation from Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning and the National Land Commission have paid a working visit to Ghana’s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to learn about the country’s land policy, administration and ongoing reforms.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Innocent Marcus Haligah, described the visit as an opportunity for both countries to openly exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences.

He expressed confidence that the engagement would strengthen collaboration and contribute to improved land governance across West Africa.

The leader of the delegation, Mr. Alusine Sesay, said Sierra Leone chose Ghana because of the similarities between the two countries and Ghana’s progress in land administration.

He noted that Sierra Leone’s National Land Commission is still evolving and the visit would help the delegation better understand Ghana’s reform journey, including its successes and challenges.

Mr Sesay added that the delegation was particularly interested in learning how Ghana has addressed obstacles encountered during its land sector reforms, saying those lessons would help shape Sierra Leone’s own efforts to strengthen land administration.

As part of the visit, the delegation received a presentation on Ghana’s land administration system from the Technical Director for Lands, Mr Geoffrey Osafo-Osei Jnr.

The engagement forms part of efforts by the two countries to deepen cooperation and promote the exchange of best practices in land management.
