Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited has presented a cheque for GH¢6.864 million to the Ayanfuri community as additional support for community development
The donation was made in fulfilment of the company’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the community.
In a speech read on behalf of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honourable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah by Prof. J. S. Y. Kuma, Minister’s Technical Advisor , he commended Perseus Mining for honouring its commitment to the people of Ayanfuri.
He described the donation as a demonstration that corporate social investment is a genuine commitment to improving lives and not just a slogan.
“This donation is not a mere financial contribution but a reaffirmation of trust, partnership and shared responsibility for sustainable development”, the Minister stated.
Presenting the cheque, the Board Chairman of Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Paramount Chief of Assin Owurenkyi Traditional Area, said the donation fulfilled the company’s obligations under its MoU with the Ayanfuri community.
He expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation, which enabled mining operations to resume at the Fetish and Esuojah North pits three months ago.
He assured the Chiefs and people of Ayanfuri that Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited remains committed to supporting the community’s development.
The Board Chair disclosed that the company had also paid US$1.4 million to the Government of Ghana for the reclamation of about 70 hectares of their concession which had been ceded to the state.
Receiving the cheque, the Chief of Ayanfuri, Nana Kwadwo Appiah III, expressed appreciation to Perseus Mining for the continued support and pledged the community’s commitment to maintaining the cordial relationship with the company.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ghana Chamber of Mines, and officials of Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited.
