The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), on Thursday, 20th November 2025 led a delegation from the Ministry to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) headquarters to sign the Book of Condolence opened in memory of Private Sarfo Agyapong Collins, a dedicated member of the task force who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

The fallen soldier, Private Sarfo Agyapong Collins, was part of a five-member NAIMOS team involved in a fatal motor accident near the Obuasi Airport enclave on Tuesday, 19th November 2025.
The team was returning to their resident base after a major anti-galamsey operation when their vehicle was summersaulted, leading to the tragic loss of life. Four other officers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

In a moment of profound reflection, Hon. Buah expressed his deep sorrow and that of the entire Ministry over the tragic loss. He eulogized the fallen officer as a courageous and devoted patriot, whose ultimate sacrifice was made in the noble cause of protecting Ghana’s natural heritage.
Honorable Buah also conveyed the heartfelt sympathies of President H.E. John Mahama to the bereaved family, leadership, and staff of NAIMOS.
“The President is mourning with you. This sacrifice will not be in vain,” the Minister assured, adding that Government remains unwavering in its commitment to combating illegal mining and safeguarding the country’s water bodies and forest reserves. He also expressed Government’s commitment to ensure that the team is adequately resourced to enable them to efficiently deliver on their mandate.
Hon. Buah also extended an invitation to the public to join in this solemn exercise in honour of our departed comrade and hero. He concluded by noting that the President and the nation remain proud of the critical work undertaken by the officers of NAIMOS and urged them to remain true to the cause for the preservation of our national heritage and for posterity.
