The Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) on Monday, 17th November 2025, held a brief ceremony to introduce its newly appointed Director-General, Dr. Prosper Aduah Akaba, and Board Chairman, Professor Prosper Mackenzie Nude. The Lands & Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah(MP), rallied staff to offer their full support for a new era of relevance, unity, and scientific rigor.
The Minister described the GGSA as a “very exciting place to work” and expressed confidence that the new leaders would help transform the organization. He noted Dr. Akaba’s extensive experience from other sector agencies and academia, and Prof. Nude’s extensive years of service, spanning over three decades in both research and industry.
Hon. Buah called on staff to give the new leadership “complete support,” stressing that the Geological Survey Authority is central to national development and must evolve to meet modern demands. He underscored his expectation that both the Director-General and Board Chairman would “get on the ground,” understand staff concerns, and help turn the GGSA into a vibrant, motivating workplace.
In his remarks, Dr. Prosper Aduah Akaba expressed deep gratitude to the President and the Minister for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to drive GGSA’s research mandate with greater teamwork, inclusion, and renewed purpose.
“Teamwork is what makes the dream work,” he said, assuring staff that he would engage every unit in the coming days so that “together, we can look at what is ahead of us.”
He emphasized his commitment to strengthening GGSA’s scientific output and ensuring the Authority meets its national responsibilities.
Board Chairman, Prof. Prosper Nude, said he was delighted to join the team tasked with restoring the GGSA to its rightful place as the nation’s foremost geoscientific advisor. He highlighted the Authority’s mandate in mineral exploration, geohazards, geoheritage, and strategic minerals, stressing the need to modernize data collection and update national geological maps.
