The Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Prof. Richard Kwasi Amankwah, has declared the University’s unflinching support towards the government’s quest to sanitize the mining sector especially Small-Scale mining.
The Vice Chancellor said this when the Hon.Minister Samuel A. Jinapor led a high powered delegation to interact and inspect some legacy projects being supported by the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) at the University in Tarkwa today.
He stated that “We are here to support your agenda at improving mining operations in the country”.
On his part, the Hon. Jinapor underscored the importance of partnership between the University and the government, stressing that ” Your University is a very important one particularly when it comes to sanitizing the small scale mining area and the environment in general”.
The ideas required to sanity the mining industry particularly the ASM will largely come from UmaT, he indicated.
The Hon Minister also bought into the University’s agenda to ‘catch them Young” where children in about 70 mineral rich communities will be engaged to help the future generations protect the environment and mine right.
