On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I wish to express my profound gratitude and that of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to millions of Ghanaians who came out to participate in the National exercise of planting 5 million trees on June 11, 2021. I am particularly grateful to H. E. the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, for his foresight and support throughout the planning and execution of this ambitious national assignment. I am equally thankful to H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his kind support and participation in the exercise.
I also wish to thank the following personalities for actively backing the project and leading by example by planting trees on the D-Day: Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin; the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anim Yeboah; the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Opare; the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II; the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin; the Overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II; the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Sharubutu Osmanu; the Chairman and Members of the Council of State; the President and Members of the National House of Chiefs, Colleague Ministers of State and Members of Parliament; Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Clergy, CSOs, the Security Services, Staff of various Ministries, Staff and Students of Ghana Education Service, Corporate Ghana and the General Public, I say Ayekoo for your immense co-operation and support during this year’s Green Ghana Day! We appreciate your strong participation and show of support throughout the organization and implementation of this ambitious project.
Lastly, I wish to thank the Forestry Commission team led by its hardworking CEO, John Allotey, as well as the National Planning Committee chaired by Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio and the staff of my Ministry without whom we could not have achieved this feat which has received worldwide attention.
I wish to encourage everyone who planted a seedling to care for and grow it.
Green Ghana Day on June 11 is only the beginning of the long-term Green Ghana Project to restore the lost forest cover of our great country.
