Government through the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has commenced the construction of a facility towards the establishment of a Gold Refinery in Ghana.
The move forms part of efforts to add value to gold, the country’s major foreign exchange earner.
Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh stated this on Friday, 4th September 2020 when he toured the construction site.
Accompanied by his Deputy, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio, the Managing Director of PMMC Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan, the CEO of Minerals Commission, Kwaku Addae Antwi Boasiako and advisor on Mines, Mr. Ben Aryee, the Minister said the decision by Government to build the refinery is to kick-start the process of value addition to gold along its entire value chain.
The US$25 million gold project which is expected to be completed in October 2020 will have the capacity to refine 300 tones of Gold per day.
